Board Meeting April 22, 2010 The Associated Students of California State University, Channel Islands, Inc. met on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 8:00 am in the California State University, Student Union, Conference Room. Members Present: Amanda VanNoy, Douglas Whitesell, Kevin Schallert, Elysse Farnell, Morris Pippins, Joanne Coville, Dr. Virgil Adams, Dana Lockwood, Jeremy Booker, Richard Wagner, Tristan Cassel Members Absent: Ed Lebioda, Korri Faria Members of the Public Present: Dr. Genevieve Evans Taylor, Christine Thompson, Stephanie Bracamontes Call to order: 8:03am Approval of Minutes: Next meeting Public Forum: No members of the public Outstanding Business: Entity Governing Document Policy: Mr. Schallert suggested the review of a draft policy of ASI Governing Documents. The overall language details the process of the ASI Board overseeing governing documents of the ASI Entities. Currently, there is no oversight of the ASI Entities governing documents by the ASI Board, which is the governing organization. Any significant change of a governing document would go to the Board for a yes/no vote. Suggestions may be submitted to the entity but no permanent changes may be made by the Board. An alternative approval method has been put into place where students can vote to ratify the entitys changed document. Language needs to be revised within the document but Mr. Schallert would like to start a discussion regarding the intent. Mr. Wagner would like to add that the documents must go to the ASI Board first. Motion to table as an action item for next meeting, second by Mr. Whitesell. Motion approved. Grad Student Representative on ASI: Taken off the table by requestor Kevin Schallert. ASI Marketing and Budget Assistant: Dr. Evans Taylor presented a combined position for all ASI Entities Marketing and Budget Directors. Would like feedback regarding the idea. Budget Allocations: Ms. Coville, projected $35,000 for food revenue. Included in the budget spreadsheet the requests from IRA with the caveat that if the entities get that money then the money come out of their allocated budget for that same request. Looking to request that IRA fund at least half of the Nautical yearbook. ASI does not want to forget that we favor allocating money to the campus departments. Vice President for Student Affairs will be paying rent for the office of a Student Affairs professional inside the Student Union Building. Recommendation that the Board cut $40,000 from this year. Ms. Faria would like to request that Student Government reduce their summer hours to mimic the other entities summer payroll cut. Mr. Lebioda would like for the Board to look at making all positions equal across the entities. Mr. Booker offered the idea of making some of the paid positions that we have internships for class credit. ASI Administration- cut to $261,648 Student Union Operating budget- cut to $381,532 Student Union Programming Board- cut to $4,100. Clubs and organization Allocation Budget- cut to $8,000 ASI Board Budget- cut to $1,000 Student Government: Mr. Schallert would like to cut $3,000 from the Maximus budget. Cut to 60,167. Student Programming Board: Ms. Lockwood would like to cut $7,000 from the Picnic. Will do a lot more events throughout the year. Cut to $75,000 CI View- cut from $27,620 to $24,620 Nautical Yearbook- cut from $22,000 to $20,600 Total Expenses $1,006,987 New Business: Dr. Evans Taylor: ASI Leadership Retreat; this would be a Board retreat tentatively scheduled for June 2nd.
